11/11/11....11 hrs and 11 minutes of daylight today, in Hawaii. That's fantastic.
So our community holds a memorial celebration for all the Veteran's (all the wars) at Pilila'au Recreation Facility every year. Although we couldn't have the annual parade due to APEC Summit this year, the ceremony was solomn and beautiful, according to my husband, who was there with our 3 yr. old granddaughter. I caught up with them later on and brought the wine cake, PB cookies and rice to add to the pot luck luncheon provided by the "Old Soldiers" to the veteran's, families and friends that were there. It was a pretty good turn out.
Because this military rec area is located right on the beach, many of us brought the kids and g-kids for a day at the beach. Our local 'hawaiian" music group entertained us throughout the day with sounds of hawaiian mele. As well, some of us that know, got up and shared a dance or two.
There was plenty of "talk story" time, reminiscing about time served and what branch, ranks, etc.... Although I'm much younger, I enjoyed listening to their accounts and applaud all who served, past, present and future. My father and mother, both were in the Army. My husband, brothers and nephew, Navy. Now my niece, in the Coast Guard. I'm proud of all of them. God Bless America. God Bless the world and its leader's and citizens too.
A hui hou,
AnTMyrna
